Drop the EGO

Updated: Feb 24, 2024

The first Monday of my life outside of the structure provided by the system has also coincided with day #1 of my journey as part of a founders programme powered by Antler.

The mission of the venture capital company is to provide the environment, community and access to support so that potential founders can meet, build and scale their company while accessing capital.

I am not an entrepreneur but I do have that mindset. I have never started anything else than a side hustle outside my daily job but have always fantasized about the idea of "how would it be to work for myself"? And voilà! A series of "coincidences" later I join this programme with the main aim to test if this road would be something for me. Knowing that I do not want to be in a set structure anymore, I am now having the chance to fully explore how is it to have no structure and chip each day at creating my own one.

Have no idea where this road will take me but I am willing to explore.

The takeaway of this first day was the answer Jed Rose, one of Antler's partners gave when asked: "What is the advice you would give to someone who is coming from the <shitshow> (working in a regimented corporate environment) to building a company?" He answered: "Drop the ego".

It hit home so well as it truly does not matter what you did in the past, which Fortune 500 company you are coming from, how many companies you sold or what accolades your CV states. What does matter is your genuine desire to spread your love.
